In summer, I’m guessing you’ll want easy access to the lake, downtown restaurants, and Sandpoint’s lively summer scene. Staying in downtown Sandpoint or in a home rental in town puts you within walking distance of City Beach, breweries, and the town’s shops and cafés.
Ponderay, just five minutes north of Sandpoint, offers chain hotels at more affordable rates with quick access to both the lake and Schweitzer. It’s not as charming as Sandpoint, so you’ll trade a bit of small-town character for convenience.
In winter, most visitors come to ski or snowboard at Schweitzer Mountain Resort. If you’re spending all day on the slopes, consider staying on the mountain for true ski-in, ski-out convenience.
